Meet Shayna Schafter - A Wonderful Actress in Our Upcoming Show "Sense and Sensibility"!

Shayna Schafter, starring as Mrs. Jennings in our upcoming show, was so kind as to answer a few questions about herself and her upcoming role. Take a peek at her responses below...

Tell us a bit about your character in "Sense and Sensibility".
Mrs. Jennings is a boisterous old woman, whose only goal in life is to match-make beautiful young ladies with decent gentlemen. My husband passed away some time ago, and I myself have one foot in the grave... I think it is a fine thing to be young an handsome, although I have never been particularly myself...maybe young though...? I don't know, I'm having a hard time keeping up...

What year are you at CSS?
I am a senior. Whoooohoooo!

What is your intended major?
I am double-majoring in Peace and Justice Studies and Communications and minoring in Political Science.

What other activities are you involved in?
I work in the theatre's costume shop as "head stitcher" and also as a research assistant for Duluth Sister Cities International. I am president of Amnesty International on campus. I love reading, hiking, fun socks, fuzzy animals, travel, and theatre.

Have you acted in any shows before? If so, which ones?
This is my 6th show at St. Scholastica, but I have done a small amount of community theatre in Duluth as well. My last show with Tammy Ostrander was Zara Spook and Other Lures, in which I played a rather quirky fisherwoman named Teale! Last year, I played Anne Frank in The Diary of Anne Frank and Helen of Troy in Orestes.

What are you most excited for with this show?
This show has been extremely fun to be a part of! the cast is a lovely, goofy bunch of people, who I am happy to spend most week nights rehearsing with. It is a privilege to work with Tammy any day! I am excited for the show to open so that everyone can enjoy the product of our hard work! So, come enjoy us, enjoy you watching our production.

You can see Shayna Schafter as well as the rest of our wonderful all-star cast in Sense and Sensibility, showing Nov. 3, 4, 9, 10, & 11 at 7:30pm and Nov. 5 and 12 at 2:00pm at the CSS Theatre. Don't miss out on this amazing show!

Meet Bailey Johnson - A Fabulous Actress in Our Upcoming Show "Sense and Sensibility"!

Bailey Johnson, starring as Mrs. Dashwood in our upcoming show, was so kind as to answer a few questions about herself and her upcoming role. Take a peek at her responses below...

Tell us a bit about your character in "Sense and Sensibility".
I play Mrs. Dashwood, the mother of the three Dashwood sisters: Elinor, Marianne, and Margaret. She is a widow, as her husband recently passed away. Although life becomes tough for the family, Mrs. Dashwood is still the typical loving mother who only wants the best for her children. She is usually proper, but also shows a humorous side.

What year are you at CSS?
I am in my second year at CSS as a Junior.

What other activities are you involved in?
Co-President of S*M*A*S*H Volleyball, ASL Club, Sunday Mass Liturgical Ministry Volunteer, CSS Archives Volunteer, Intramural Volleyball Player, and Vox Anima (Women's Choir).

What is your intended major?
I am currently undecided with my major, but I'm leaning towards Art History (possibly a museum curator) and maybe a minor in ASL or Theatre.

Have you acted in any shows before? If so, which ones?
I have been in plays and One-Acts since my freshman year of high school, but this is my first CSS performance!
Plays: Alice in Wonderland - Alice
Wizard of Oz - Roq (Head Flying Monkey)
          Aladdin - Zanda (Tiger)
          Robin Hood - Robin Hood
One Acts: Ten Ways to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse - Susan
           Superheroes - 5 Characters
           Shell's Sister - Maxine (Mother)

What are you most excited for with this show?
I'm mostly excited about performing with the cast and the performance itself. We've all been working long hours to make this play the best it can be, and I can't wait to see the audience's reactions.

You can see Bailey Johnson as well as the rest of our wonderful all-star cast in Sense and Sensibility, showing Nov. 3, 4, 9, 10, & 11 at 7:30pm and Nov. 5 and 12 at 2:00pm at the CSS Theatre. Don't miss out on this amazing show!

Meet Jemma Provance - The Star of Our Upcoming Show "Sense and Sensibility"!

Jemma Provance, starring as Marianne Dashwood in our upcoming show, was so kind as to answer a few questions about herself and her upcoming role. Take a peek at her responses below...

Tell us a bit about your character in "Sense and Sensibility".
Marianne is the "sensibility" half of the two sisters the show is about, so she's emotional, expressive, and much less concerned with propriety than her practical and reserved sister, Elinor.

What year are you at CSS?
I'm a Junior.

What other activities are you involved in?
I'm in two choirs, and when I can, I participate in three clubs including ART club, ASL and Deaf Culture Club, and Queer-Straight Alliance. I also write for the Cable.

What is your intended major?
I'm a Psychology major with minors in Art and Deaf Language and Culture.

Have you acted in any shows previously? If so, which ones?
This is my first show at CSS but I grew up in a theatre family so I've been onstage since I was like, eight. We did Mary Poppins a couple summers ago and that might be my favorite.

What are you most excited for with this show?
It's an incredibly fun show with very earnest characters I care so much about, and everyone involved is so very fun to watch and work with. But I also really, really like doing accents. :)

You can see Jemma Provance as well as the rest of our wonderful all-star cast in Sense and Sensibility, showing Nov. 3, 4, 9, 10, & 11 at 7:30pm and Nov. 5 and 12 at 2:00pm at the CSS Theatre. Don't miss out on this amazing show!

As always, it is a pleasure to blog for you.
