Meet Josie Steller - The Star of Our Upcoming Show "The Miss Firecracker Contest"!

Performances for "The Miss Firecracker Contest" are this week!!!

Freshman Josie Steller will star as Carnelle
Scott in "The Miss Firecracker Contest"
With performances right around the corner, I thought it would be fun to get to know the leading actress a bit better. Josie Steller, a freshman here at CSS, will be starring as Carnelle Scott in our upcoming production of "The Miss Firecracker Contest". Let's see what she has to say about her experience of being in this show and perhaps she will even give us a glimpse of what to expect from this show...

What has been your favorite part of the rehearsal process thus far?
My favorite part has definitely been getting to know all of the cast and crew members. Our director is amazing and never fails to make us laugh. I didn't know anyone very well going into it, but now we are like a family - we all know each other really well, we help each other through thick and thin, and we have cast sleepovers!

What do you like best about your character?
I feel blessed to have been given the honor of playing Carnelle.  I LOVE Carnelle. She is witty, energetic, and has a child-like personality.  However, like us all, Carnelle also has some baggage from her past. What I really like is how Carnelle develops this revelation of acceptance of who she is and how she can better present herself with respect and grace.

What has been the most challenging part of the rehearsal process?
The most challenging part of my rehearsal project has been time management.  I've been in plays before, but I've never had so big of a role or so much responsibility. It's been a learning process of how I have been able to manage classes, work, clubs, and play practice every night.  In all, I come back from play practice exhausted, but I love every moment of the experience.

What would you say to people considering coming to see the show?
The play is well written and we've put a lot of work into making sure that all of its colors show.  Be ready to laugh!  Going to see this play will not only make you laugh but may also serve as a relief to any problem situation that you may be having in life.

Opening night is this Friday (2/3) at 7:30pm! Don't miss seeing Josie Steller and the rest of the cast put on a spectacular performance! Tickets are for sale either online at http://www.css.edu/about/spotlight-arts-and-lectures.html or by calling (218)723-7000.

Hope to see you at the show! Have a fantastic week!

The Theatre is Bustling!

The Theatre is Bustling!

As winter break has wound down, second semester begins. Our Christmas decorations are no more and the CSS Theatre is preparing extensively for our Spring semester shows! We are ecstatic to share our production of “The Miss Firecracker Contest” with the community. As said show rolls out, we begin laying foundation for our spring production of Orestes.
Performances of The Miss Firecracker Contest are as follows:
Feb. 2 CSS Student FREE Preview
Feb. 3-4 and 9-11 @ 7:30pm
Feb 5 and 12 @ 2:00pm

AUDITIONS for Orestes will take place on the 7th and 8th of February, just before our second week of Miss Firecracker shows.

Needless to say, the theatre has its hands full, but we are well prepared to WOW the community with our spring productions. I snuck in and snapped a picture of part of the Miss Firecracker set (and our Master Carpenter Ben Grimm). While a lot of work has already been done, more is in store.

On Saturday, Adrianna and I plan to plaster the city of Duluth with posters to get the community excited about the show. Keep your eyes peeled for the beauties around town, and mark your calendars, so you don’t miss the show!

When you come to the show, be sure to check out our “new” couches in the lobby. The pattern may make you a little dizzy, but I think they are absolutely delightful.

FUN FACT: Some say these unique pieces of furniture had spent many years in our most prized Dr. Merry Vaughan’s parent’s living room.

Have a super sparkly day, ‘twas a pleasure blogging for you.

We Are Back!

We are back!
miss firecracker poster.JPGWinter break has come to an end, and we are now only a few weeks away from performances! Performances for “The Miss Firecracker Contest” will be February 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 @ 7:30pm and  Feb.5 and 12 @ 2pm. We have received our beautiful posters for the show, so be sure to keep an eye out for them! They will be popping up around campus and the rest of Duluth very soon. The 2017 show season also includes “Orestes: Blood and Light” which will take place at the end of March and beginning of April. It is bound to be a great year for the CSS theatre.
Thanks everyone!
